Brit Out of Water

A broke London accountant inherits a crumbling Southern inn — and accidentally inherits everything that comes with it.

OLIVER HARRIS, a disheveled 40-something Brit drowning in overdue rent, gets a call that upends his life: his estranged Uncle Reggie has died and left him The Rusty Anchor Inn, a decaying coastal property in Port Magnolia, South Carolina. Desperate and out of options, Oliver flies in expecting a payday — instead finding a collapsing building, a squatting raccoon named King George, a leaking roof, and three locals who have no intention of letting him fail: Lucy Mae (the inn's fiercely loyal jack-of-all-trades), Buddy (the territorial handyman), and Miss Vivian DuBois (the town's pearl-clutching historical gatekeeper). When Oliver reluctantly agrees to throw a disastrous reopening ball — chronicled in real time by an influencer named Jason — chaos, community, and unexpected charm collide. By the end of the night, soaked in sweet tea and pecan pie, Oliver finds himself starting to belong somewhere he never wanted to be. Just as he accepts his fate, a hidden letter from Uncle Reggie surfaces — hinting at a secret treasure locked away in the inn's most haunted room, setting up a season-long mystery neither Oliver nor Port Magnolia saw coming.
