Joe DiMiceli – Screenwriter A Brooklyn native, Joe has written over twenty stage plays and screenplays as well as a considerable body of political and cultural nonfiction. After college (B.A., M.A. English Literature, The New School) he worked first for the government as an unelected bureaucrat, then as an Associate Professor of English Literature at the College of Westchester, White Plains, New York. But these were the day jobs. Nights and weekends Joe pursued a career as a writer. (He prefers the generic word “writer” as he works across many fields: stage, screen, television, journalism, satire, and publishing.) Joe is currently flogging his recently completed feature The Devil and the Deuce, a fantasy/thriller that he hopes has commercial appeal. On a more elevated level, Joe is developing a multi-season streaming series on Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Group. He sees this effort as an antidote to the superficial characters and useless lives depicted in Victoria, Downton Abbey, and The Crown. Conversely, the Bloomsberries, although from the same time and class, actually do things—and play major roles in defining the literature, art, science, politics, and social mores of the first half of the Twentieth Century. Most of Joe’s success has been in writing for the stage and he has had numerous productions of his plays in a variety of venues. These include the Lark Theatre in Manhattan produced Suspects, a finalist in its New Plays Festival, 2010; The Jubilee Theatre, finalist in their New Plays Festival June 17, 2012, produced a staged reading of Willie and Sam; Dayton Playhouse produced Castle K as a finalist in their FutureFest 2000 competition; and the McCarter Theatre Center, Princeton produced Casualties as an Equity Showcase.

Among other awards, Joe is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Playwriting Fellowship.

In 2012 Joe moved to Texas and, in a second act, began reinventing himself as a journalist. He has published twenty-four op-ed pieces in the San Angelo Standard-Times and has made numerous contributions to The New York Times comment and blog sections. From 2010-2011 Joe was the publisher, editor, and sole content writer for a satirical online monthly website, socrateslite.org that lasted about a year. Joe says that had Donald Trump been around, he could have lasted forever. ook! Joe now lives in San Angelo, Texas where he is (happily) retired from the day job and (happily) back writing full-time for the stage and screen.
