FELLOW TRAVELERS

Eddie, a reclusive thirteen year old Boyle Heights African American, is persuaded by, Diego, an equal age Boyle Heights Latino rival, to navigate the dark and dangerous streets of 1978 Los Angeles through the overnight hours with the goal of reaching the beach/ocean ten miles away, a destination Eddie has never seen in person.

It's been one year since Eddie's father was killed via a gang related incident. It's now just himsel and his mother. Eddie spends much of his time sketching/drawing ocean/beach scenes. His skills are quite impressive as his finished works are true artistic masterpieces and litter the entirety of his bedroom. Eddie also enjoys volunteering at a local dog rescue. One particular dog, a Pit bull, Bojangles, has become Eddie's project as of late. During a couple such visits to the dog rescue, Eddie meets Diego, an equal age Latino rival, who takes an interest in him for a very personal reason; eventually pushing Eddie to accomplish his dream of seeing the beach/ocean in person for the first time. They will attempt to accomplish this goal together during the overnight hours. During their overnight journey through a dark and eerie 1978 Los Angeles, Diego slowly reveals his true intentions as to why he pushed Eddie to go through with his initiative and his personal reason for his involvement in the task. By story end, Eddie learns truth as to why his father was killed, all the while developing a well-earned friendship with rival Diego and accomplishing his goal of making it to the beach.

I have done a considerable amount of writing in relation to Feature screenplays & shorts for that matter. I enjoy the methodical appraoch to screenplay writing to produce the best work possible - from noodling the idea with note taking, to eventually crafting a 10 page +/- outline that thoroughly brings about the 3-act structure, the unique characters and their goals and arcs, to exhibiting true conflict & obstacles, that eventually lead to I hope a satisfying conclusion.
