Whiskey Cup

A country music legend’s life begins to unravel when new DNA evidence frees an innocent man imprisoned for a murder that points investigators straight toward him.

In 1988 Oklahoma, struggling musician Storm Hudson is riding with bandmates Ray and Frankie when a drugged-out Ray accidentally hits Donna Workman with their van. As they rush the injured woman toward a hospital, Ray—terrified of returning to prison—shoots her. The three dispose of Donna’s body and stay silent while corrupt detective Beau Cross coerces innocent Grant Harjo into confessing to her murder. Grant receives life in prison, Frankie dies, and Storm flees for Nashville, where “Whiskey Cup” launches him into country-music superstardom.

Thirty years later, Cross’s suicide leads police chief Cory Brewer to hidden evidence from Donna’s case, including fingernail DNA that excludes Grant. In prison, Grant discovers that lyrics in another piece of evidence connect Ray and Storm to Donna’s death. His attorney’s investigation ultimately matches the DNA to Storm, freeing Grant after decades behind bars.

But Storm continues lying, even to his beloved brother Skip. Believing Grant is attacking his brother, Skip confronts Grant with a gun and accidentally shoots him. The tragedy finally destroys Storm’s defenses. Sober and stripped of his heroic image, he loses Skip’s trust and confronts the cost of thirty years of silence. With nothing left to hide behind, Storm arrives at Donna’s father’s door and asks to talk.
