Little Blind Mouse

An abused wife and her lover audition actresses for a fake film to frame one for murder, but when genuine feelings emerge, the women turn their con on their male accomplice instead.

Concept: Little Blind Mouse uses only four characters and two locations, a brownstone apartment and a cafe booth. When a young woman trapped in an abusive marriage and her lover plot to murder her controlling CEO husband, they use auditions for a fake movie production to find their fall guy. When betrayal strikes, the women rewrite the script, leaving their ambitious male accomplice to take the fall while they escape with freedom and fortune.

Synopsis: When the story begins, we initially believe that Cindy Wheeler is a female screenwriter who appears focused on a creative breakthrough. She is joined by her producer, Zac Dawson, a modern-day yuppie with high ambition, eager for the project to succeed. They're struggling with the critical murder scene in their script and finding the lead actor for their film, each motivated by personal stakes.

Then it's revealed that Cindy feels trapped in a sexually and psychologically abusive 10-year marriage with a much older CEO, Noah Wheeler, who is also Zac's demanding boss. Cindy was an 18-year-old sex worker when Noah married her, knowing her vulnerability. Zac empathizes with Cindy's suffering because he is also under Noah's control and wishes to escape Noah's dominance at work. Their shared desire to be free of Noah's hold leads to an adulterous affair, turning into a plan to rid themselves of him. Cindy, bound by a prenup and Noah's influence, cannot leave easily, while Zac sees Noah as the main obstacle to his corporate aspirations.

The story then reveals that the script is actually a blueprint for murdering Noah, motivated by Cindy's desperation to escape her abuser and Zac's ambition to claim the company for himself. Their struggle with the murder scene reflects their fear of failure. Instead of genuinely searching for talent, Cindy and Zac use the casting process to find someone they can set up and frame for Noah’s murder. Cindy, eager to escape her situation, deceives the women auditioning for the part. At the same time, Zac, thinking ahead, chooses Nathalie Powell, whom he assumes will be easy to control. They pin their entire plan on taking advantage of Nathalie's dreams and insecurities.

The script then shifts to the audition and rehearsal scenes, where Zac and Cindy, intent on covering their tracks, gather DNA samples, rehearsal videos, and fingerprints from the murder weapon to frame Nathalie convincingly. Driven by a growing sense of urgency, Cindy becomes more determined to escape Noah's worsening abuse. She starts confiding in Nathalie, and over time, the two form a real bond as Cindy finds solace in someone who truly empathizes with her situation. At the same time, Zac recognizes an opportunity to move ahead in his own career; he starts to curry favor with Noah, who asks him to keep an eye on Cindy during his absence.

After Zac's relationship with Noah improves, reducing his need to eliminate him, he tells Cindy and Nathalie to postpone the "movie." Cindy, motivated now more by her attachment to Nathalie and desire to escape abuse than by financial gain, declares her intention to run away with Nathalie regardless of lost money. Nathalie's motivation is also clarified: she never fully trusted the project, but feigned interest for financial reasons and her feelings for Cindy. She now prioritizes Cindy above the scheme, convincing her to abandon the plan.

Zac, intent on preserving his advancement with Noah and seeing Cindy as instrumental to his ambitions, tries to persuade her to stay. When Cindy refuses, Zac betrays the women by revealing Cindy's escape plans to Noah. Noah, driven by possessiveness, immediately returns home, not expecting Cindy's preparedness. Cindy, acting decisively from a sense of final desperation for freedom, drugs Noah's cognac, knowing his habits. The incapacitation gives Cindy the chance to enact the murder. Nathalie's actions are motivated by loyalty to Cindy—she arrives after the murder and helps frame Zac as the culprit to shield herself and Cindy.

The two women, now united by their shared necessity for freedom and self-preservation, flee and leave Zac, whose ambition and betrayal lead to his downfall, to take the blame for Noah's murder. Cindy and Nathalie leave with both their freedom and Noah's fortune.? Zac, in the end, is the Little Blind Mouse because he didn't realize the con within the con was on him.
