Synopsis

Ember's family had died from sickness which left her alone on the streets having to beg for food. She was fortunate enough to be given a job as a barmaid by a successful tavern owner who took pity on her. The work was tiresome and she was often shunned and made fun of by those who were fortunate enough to have had an education and had married into wealth. But she knew that this job kept her from starving to death. A happy future seemed hopeless until the day a gentleman by the name of Lord Benedict walked into her place of work. She was instantly attracted to his handsome appearance, but soon discovered how generous and kind he was. For the first time, someone was able to look past her shabby appearance and see her true beauty. Could this handsome and sophisticated man make all her dreams come true? Benedict showered her with gifts and treated her like a princess offering his home as a place for her to live happily. Harrington his loyal butler was far from pleased and tried to persuade Benedict from taking this girl in but to no avail, as it was clear that Benedict was smitten with this young red-headed woman and wanted to make a life with her. Ember was full of excitement and wonderment at the very thought of living the rest of her life in this beautiful mansion with this perfect man. Now when she went out in public she turned heads for a very different reason. Her dresses and jewelry were the best that money could buy, she looked and felt confident in herself, knowing that most women would do anything to be in her shoes. Unfortunately, things were about to take a turn for the worse the day Ember decided to explore the mansion further not knowing that her curiosity would lead her to discover that Benedict was no ordinary man. It was in the basement that she found treasures beyond her imagination, but it was the ornate coffin in the corner that sparked her interest. She was definitely not expecting to see the man she loved lying in it as she opened the lid. Benedict had no choice but to share his dark secret which also included his loyal butler. Will Ember be able to live with this darkness that has been revealed to her or will she become obsessed and manipulative and do anything she can to have this power for herself?
