Josephson Entertainment Screenwriting Fellowship
This opportunity will provide a one-on-one mentorship in Los Angeles for two fellows – one writer or writing team with a feature script and one writer or writing team with a teleplay pilot – selected from the Final Round of this year’s competition. Fellows will be chosen based on the writers and scripts that imbue the most promise for development. Show More

Awards

Awards range from $1000-$5000 per winner. Winners also receive reimbursement of roundtrip airfare (up to $500, excluding frequent flyer miles); hotel reimbursement at the Film Festival (up to $500); and the AFF Bronze Typewriter Award.

Austin Fest Announces Screenplay Contest Winners

AUSTIN, Texas - The 2000 Austin Film Festival is proud to announce the winners of its film and screenplay competitions. The Austin Film Festival and Heart of Film Screenwriters Conference, held October 12-19 this year, focuses on the artistic contribution of screenwriters and budding filmmakers to the movie and TV industry.

Film categories are independently produced features, short films and student shorts. Screenplay categories include adult, comedy and family.

Winners of the 2000 screenplay competition:

* Adult: "Checkmate" by Frank Reilly of Kapaa, Hawaii;

* Comedy: "You Down with OCD?" by Stephen Falk of Los Angeles, California; and

* Family: "On Top of the World" by Nancy Hendrickson of Refeda, California.

Winning writers of the adult and family categories take home a cash prize of $4000. The winner of the comedy category takes home a cash prize of $1000. In addition, winners will receive reimbursement of one round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations to attend the AFF. Screenplay winners in all three categories also receive the AFF Bronze Award.

Winners of the 2000 film competition:

* Feature: The Testimony of Taliesin Jones, written by Maureen Tilyou and directed by Martin Duffy of Los Angeles, California;

* Short: In God We Trust, written and directed by Jason Reitman of Los Angeles, California; and

* Student short: Genesis and Catastrophe, written by Jamie Ruddy and Jonathan Liebesman and directed by Liebesman of Los Angeles, California.

The feature-length film winner earns a cash prize of $750 and a special Winners' Night Screening, and the short-film and student-short winners earn $500 each; all three also win the AFF Bronze Award.

All film competition winners receive two all-access passes to the Austin Film Festival, 10 tickets to the film's screenings, a Master Class conducted by a presenting Festival filmmaker and inclusion in the AFF Filmmaker's Catalog, which is distributed to all judges and industry parties. They also receive reimbursement of one round-trip airfare to Austin to attend the AFF and the cost of hotel accommodations.
