F.M.L

Five years after beating cancer and a decade after being blackballed from Hollywood, a sharp-tongued former screenwriter is dragged into suburban PTA warfare just as an old filmmaking friend offers him a way back — forcing him to choose between the life he rebuilt and the career he never stopped wanting.

Five years after surviving cancer and a decade after being blackballed from Hollywood, former screenwriter DAVE SLOANE has built himself a quieter life in suburban Britain with his wife LIZZY and their son JUNIOR. He may have survived the two biggest battles of his life, but Dave remains sharp-tongued, cynical and painfully aware that the career he once dreamed of has carried on perfectly well without him.

His supposedly peaceful new existence takes an unexpected turn when he becomes embroiled in the politics surrounding Junior’s school and crosses paths with JOANNE SIMMONS, the formidable PTA president who treats playground politics like a military campaign. Before long, Dave finds himself pulled into the school production and a world of overbearing parents, petty rivalries and community drama he is spectacularly ill-equipped to tolerate quietly.

Then ALAN, an old friend from Dave’s filmmaking days, reappears with an opportunity Dave thought had disappeared years ago: a genuine route back into the film industry.

Suddenly, Dave is caught between two lives. At home, he has a wife and son who stood beside him while everything else fell apart and a school production that becomes increasingly impossible to escape. On the other side is the career he lost, the creative ambition he never completely buried and the intoxicating possibility that Hollywood might finally want him back.

F.M.L. is a one-hour comedy-drama about second chances, family, ambition and the absurdity of rebuilding your life only for your old one to come knocking. As Dave battles PTA politics and attempts to stage a school play while cautiously stepping back into an industry that once rejected him, he must work out whether getting his career back is really what he wants — and how much of the life he fought to rebuild he is prepared to risk finding out.
