Family

Seeking a fresh start, a newly married couple and their teenage daughter move to a small town, but the daughter begins to suspect that her stepfather is hiding something sinister.

Julie Prentice has raised her daughter, Sara (17), on her own. When Julie meets Dave Lewis, they are immediately attracted to each other and after several months of dating, they decide to get married and move to a small town for a fresh start. Sara isn't very happy about the situation but has no choice. Julie tells Dave that Sara never knew her father who was sent to prison. He was abusive towards Julie.

At the new house, Sara finds a cat, Cleo, and gives it a home. She also finds Dave's gun. Both Sara and Julie are surprised that he has a gun. Sara wants to learn how to shoot it. Dave agrees to teach her.

At school, Sara makes friends with Jeannie, but Jeannie's boyfriend Toby takes an interest in Sara which makes her feel uncomfortable. She also befriends Corey, an awkward teenager. At night, there's someone watching the house. Dave finds Corey looking in Sara's window, but he claims it's innocent.

Sara sees Dave arguing with a man named Nate. Dave denies they were arguing. He tells her that Nate is an old friend who just stopped by to say Hi. Later, while organizing the office, Sara finds a folder in Dave's belonging. Inside the folder are reports and clippings about a girl who is the same age as Sara. Later, Dave destroys the file.

After Dave gets upset with Cleo, Sara's cat goes missing. She searches for the cat but cannot finds him.

Sara goes to the quarry when she runs into Toby. Toby unexpectedly pushes Sara into the water. The fall could have killed her. She screams at him when suddenly Toby screams, falls, and lands on the rocks. He's dead. Dave tells Sara that the police believe he lost his footing and that it was just an accident. They do not believe her when she tells them she saw someone up on the cliff.

Nate walks to his car when he's attacked, and his throat is slit. He dies instantly.

Sara takes an after-school job at a newspaper office and stumbles across information about the murder of Nate. She recognizes him.

Sara drives home when another car causes her to swerve off the road. A man with a scar on his arm, Terryl, gets out of the car and acts strangely. Sara tries to get rid of him but instead, Terryl grabs her when another car drives up. Mike steps out of the car with a tire iron, frightening Terryl away. Mike offers Sara a ride. At first, she declines but then changes her mind. They find Terryl's car by the side of the road and Mike leaves Sara inside the car as he goes to investigate.

Julie confronts Dave about his past and he finally admits that he used to be a police detective and his partner was Nate. They were looking for a missing girl, Heather. They found the suspect Terryl and shot him in the arm. Dave put pressure on Terryl's wound to get him to confess to where Heather was located, but it was too late, Heather was dead. She has been held for weeks, raped, and strangled. Terryl cut a deal with the court but Dave lost his job for his behavior. However, he doesn't regret it. Nate came by to tell him that Terryl escaped.

Julie becomes alarmed for Sara. Dave agrees to go find her but when he goes outside the house, he finds Terryl’s body. Suddenly someone hits Dave.

Julie hears a noise and when she turns around, she sees Mike - it's her ex-husband with Cleo. He attacks Julie. Back at the car, Sara, now tied up, escapes the car and cuts her binding. She races to the house. At the house, as Mike is about to kill her mother, she aims a gun at him. Mike tells her that he's her father, but she doesn't care. She shoots the gun but it only clicks. Mike hits her. He's about to assault them both when Dave, hurt, stops him and in an ensuing struggle, Dave passes out. Julie and Sara then team up and stop Mike permanently.

The family has a new beginning.
