Driftwood

A retired detective begins receiving mysterious driftwood messages from a deranged serial killer, This turn into a search, for a madman serial killer with a knife. It’s gets complicated when he falls romantically for his new partner

Driftwood Johnny Bailey is discharged from the SFPD after 15 years of service for misconduct. He then moves to Washington, along Port Gardner, taking up a quiet life in his new art studio. Six Months Later Ex Detective Johnny Bailey gets pulled back into a serial killer investigation when he discovers a DRIFTWOOD plank on his beach walk. Meanwhile Detective McFear is investigating a recent string of murders in Seattle. She reports back to Captain Jones. The Captain officially labels the latests murder as a serial killer case, and calls for a news conference. Johnny watches a news conference, on TV, about murders in Seattle, and a serial killer is suspected. He realizes there just might be a message of some kind with-in the driftwood he found. He brings this information to lead Detective Danielle McFear, she presents the driftwood information to Captain Jones. He initially questions johnny’s involvement but McFear convinces Jones that Johnny has the skills to act as a consultant. Johnny joins the case. Johnny’s determination inspires the other detectives, and together they work to determine the killer's MO and similarities among the victims. Somehow the newspapers pick up the story about the disgrace ex detective joining the Seattle PD as a consultant. With some savvy detective work, and the use of CCT cameras, they track the killer to a warehouse, but find it vacant along with photos of McFear pinned to a bulletin board. Needing a break, McFear visits Johnny and tells him about her troubled upbringing as they walk along the beach. They decide to canvas the Blackman Lake area. They visit a local gas station, asking about the killer's truck. The two workers recognize the truck, and who it belongs too. Now they know the killer's location, identity and name. SAM LEWIS.—————— They stake Sam's house out. Sam quickly escapes through a hidden door as the police move into the house. He then triggers a bomb in the house, injuring several detectives. A new piece of driftwood is found, this time containing McFear's personal items. They discover that Sam somehow waltzed into the police station undetected. Johnny returns home to his studio. Sam slips through the perimeter set up at McFear's house and try's to kill her. McFear is waiting and shoots him. Sam flees out the window and disappears into the night. They track Sam to a high rise luxury apartment building, but lose him, when? he flies out the window, in a wing-suit, and disappears into the water. He's presumed dead. A new body is found in a shady area of Seattle. The victim has a note in his hand with an IP address. They follow the IP address with a new clue, a Polaroid with letters and numbers attached. Johnny and McFear establish a tip-line in an attempt to crowd-source information from the public. A tip leads them to an apartment building, but they only find a homeless man with a message to McFear from Sam. As Johnny and McFear leave the apartment, they discover Sam is watching them from the top floor of the building. They circle the building, go up the stairs, then push the door and quickly arrest Sam. The next day as they enter police department everyone greets them with cheers for their triumphant arrival back.
