Contest News

Waterfront Film Festival Announces Screenplay Winner

The Waterfront Film Festival announced that Pietz Peterson has won its 2007 screenplay competition for “My Dog Trash Can.”

Peterson’s screenplay was chosen from more than 150 screenplays submitted to the Waterfront Indie Screenplay Competition, which is held as a part of the annual film festival in Saugatuck, Mich. His screenplay tells the story of a quirky, dysfunctional family concentrating on a nerdy kid being forced to bond with his mixed-up father.

A native of Houston, Peterson is working on a master of fine arts in dramatic writing at New York University. He is the author of five additional feature-length scripts.

As the part of the 2007 screenplay competition, Peterson and the Waterfront Film Collective, which is the production arm of the festival, have the option to work together to develop and produce the film. If the film is chosen for production, WFF guarantees a world premiere at an upcoming festival. Peterson will also receive accommodations and an all-access badge for the 2007 Waterfront Film Festival.

WFF also recognized two other screenplays as finalists in this year’s competition. These included “Faces in the Street” by sisters Lisa and Larissa Olick and “…People Kill People” by Copper Harbor native Dan. J. Kauppi.
