Contest News

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter LEW OSTEEN

An interview with screenwriter LEW OSTEEN regarding the Worldfest - Houston Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS

ONE NIGHTMARE TO DESTROY THE WORLD! ONE DREAM TO SAVE IT!

What would happen if our wildest dreams came true? We might have everything out hearts desire or if the darker side of our dreams came true we might destroy the world. Young, socially reserved, Jack Magnuson is diagnosed as autistic - but is he? Maybe he has a gift that makes him seem different and just isn't understood by anyone but his mother. Jack's mother, a researcher for a secret military program, uses her skills to help her son but before her program is completed, she dies under mysterious circumstances. Jack, is a computer genius, and the son of the largest computer manufacturer in the world. He has access to a super state of the art system where he enjoys spending time with holographic images that '' don't make his head hurt like people do.'' Using this system, Jack is determined to find out who killed his mother. In the process he develops a Virtual Reality program that transforms basic Electro-Magnetic waves into touchable reality. It also reaches into the after life and allows communication with spirits. Jack's ''Wildest Dream'' is that it may even bring his mother back to life. He doesn't consider the ''Frankenstein'' factor that it can also bring in the darkest elements of other worlds. Jack enlists the aid of his computer friend, a troubled young girl named Liberty. They are close to solving the problem of communicating with the other side when the CIA, FBI and local police trace a series of bizarre occurrences to them. These agencies want Jack's program for covert military uses and all traces of Jack and Liberty eliminated. When Liberty is captured Jack must decide whether to use the program to save her and maybe destroy the world or find some other way to rescue her. Is one girl's life worth destroying the world? In his ''Wildest Dreams'' Jack never dreamt that he would face that dilemma. How he solves that problem and saves the world is the core drama in ''Your Wildest Dreams''.
