The Cajun
When a notorious pirate, made immortal by the curse of a Voodoo Queen, is invited to a mysterious poker game in modern day New Orleans, he discovers a clue to find the treasure that can set him free. But he must evade the FBI, the Mob, and his own bad intentions, to change his fate and save the world from the forces of evil.
The story begins in the Gulf of Honduras in 1823. The battle between Jean Lafitte and the Spanish Navy over some of these rare gold coins. The battle that leaves Jean mortally wounded. We fade into modern day and witness The Cajun on a bounty hunter’s pay day. The elusive prize has some sort of telepathy power when they touch you and the buyer very eager to get their hands on it. After getting paid The Cajun then sets course for The Big Easy for a card game he received a mysterious invite to. Pierre Lafitte, the older brother to Jean. Thought to have died in an ambush by the Spanish a few years before Jean’s own encounter and similar fate. Pierre captured an English ship during the War of 1812, aboard was three Spanish monks and ancient texts and maps for the location of Atlantean gold. With the gold and the proper sacrifice he who holds the treasure can achieve immortality. That was the goal of a rogue British general during the war. An immortal army to defeat the Americans.
Pierre just happened to capture the right ship at the right time. Becoming obsessed with the treasure and the legend, Pierre breaks off from Jean and their operations to follow the map and the texts to the treasure. After receiving word of his brother’s death and taking control of his assets, Jean begins to see the life of a pirate in the Gulf of Mexico will soon be coming to an end.
Jean takes the workings from his brother and sets out to do finish what Pierre started, find the gold and see if the legend is true. One last act of piracy before extinction. 200 years later and in that time the gold has traded hands whether by greedy spending or treasure hunters digging up a cache every now and then. The Cajun has spent most of that time tracking down each and every piece where ever it is in the world.
Which leads us to present day and the preacher tossing out a piece of it during a card game. this mystery has its fair share of red herrings and dead ends. It’s meant to not only throw off The Cajun but also the viewer. The characters in this story are all players in the game. And no it’s not a card game.
Pierre is behind the rise of mob activity in the French Quarter lately. All a part of his plan to create the ultimate treasure hunt for his brother. Pulling the strings of the mob, Pierre causes chaos for local PD and the local FBI office when he has the DA’s daughter assassinated on her wedding day, the same day The Cajun returns to New Orleans. Now The Cajun struggles to solve the mystery of the gold and have to deal with the FBI getting in his way. One FBI agent has developed an obsession for the same gold after he first came across it about a year ago.
The Cajun also faces opponents of a super natural and the alter human kind. The return of the legendary Axeman of New Orleans, a silent assassin and a few other cast of characters from the storied past of New Orleans make an appearance to stop The Cajun from getting the gold and lead him to his brother. Each one hour episode begins with a flashback, a little insight into a few of the players. As the series goes on we see how each player evolves based on their relation to the gold and The Cajun. Some players fair well, other’s lose it all.
Using the format where the second to the last episode kicks you hard, you still have one more episode to endure. The first season is a noir story of greed, murder, obsession and folklore.
The first of many stories of The Cajun wraps up with an epic battle between the two immortal brothers only to be broken up by a special division of the CIA. This elite unit has been tracking the movement of Pierre for sometime and now its time to get him back to Haiti and do what he does best. Don’t worry, The Cajun escapes and heads for southern waters and let the Big Easy cool down.
