THE DOOR

While strolling late at night, an ordinary man is surprised to see three open doorways in a hundred-meter stretch of the same sidewalk. His first impulse is to continue on his way, but curiosity makes him turn back.

Curiosity is a person's desire to know or find out about a foreign matter that is none of his or her business. Sometimes simple curiosity becomes morbid, and can lead to a compelling need to see, feel, hear, smell or interact with something considered forbidden or proscribed. It is, in essence, a force that drives us to come into contact with it, and even go so far as to transgress norms or enter the world of the forbidden. We see a simple crowd of people and cannot help but approach. We find ourselves in a traffic jam while driving and we slow down to try to see something from our vehicle, even endangering our physical integrity and that of other people. Why are we unable to suppress these instincts? Do they represent a sign of weakness in our personality?
