Armed and determined, Gordie agrees to protect Sara for one week until she can escape town. The two hide out at a local sex and drug commune, only venturing out when absolutely necessary, leading to several tense encounters and narrow escapes. As Sara and Gordie evade the relentless pursuit of Caliguri and the corrupt Pierce County Sheriff's Office (which is in the mafia's pocket), Gordie’s backstory unfolds through flashbacks, revealing his harrowing experiences and skills honed through the Civil Air Patrol and daring exploits. In a final, desperate move to elude their pursuers, Gordie switches cars with his friend Rick, an Army man on leave who’s staying at Gordie’s apartment. Eventually, Gordie manages to get Sara safely on a plane, but tragedy strikes when she is captured by the New York mafia upon arrival in Manhattan. As federal authorities close in, the Carbone family’s reign of terror ends, with many members imprisoned or dead. However, Caliguri survives and walks out of prison years later as an old man. Gordie, now scarred but wiser, moves on to his next bodyguard job, at 18, in Manhattan, carrying the weight of a week that forever changed his life. And never knowing she had arrived there before him. The Teenage Bodyguard is a gripping true crime tale of survival, courage, and the dark underworld of 1970s organized crime, based on the real-life story of the protagonist.
