Maria Massei-Rosato is an author and screenwriter. Her memoir was selected as a semi-finalist in the William Faulkner Writing Competition and her screenplay, Lost in Control, based on her memoir, has been a finalist in several film festivals. She holds an M.F.A in creative non-fiction from The New School, a B.S. from NYU, and has attended Robert McKee’s Story seminar. Her most recent work has appeared in Poets & Writers Magazine, Brain, Child Magazine, Boomer Lit Mag, Tell Us A Story, and Mutha Magazine.

She developed and co-teaches a writing/yoga workshop: Writing From the Kundalini Soul in New York, Maine, and California. She is also an adjust professor at Parsons School of Design, teaching a course she created: storytelling with data. Maria is passionate about making Lost in Control; similar to Cheryl Strayed’s Wild (but on wheels) her story is packed with all the adventures of a 7 ½ week cross-country bicycle journey including a ‘meetup’ with a cougar, near-death experience with a lightning storm, and rifle-toting drunken men. At the heart of the story is the changing nature of her relationship with her mom as she becomes her caregiver and applies the lessons she learned traveling cross-country: life requires strength in the face of adversity, patience when confronted with a challenge, and faith when all seems lost.
