Screenplay Live to Stage BlueCat Finalist

SCREENPLAY LIVE returns for a third year at the High Falls Film Festival with a staged reading of BEARD’S CREEK by Maureen Tilyou, a finalist of the 2006 BlueCat Screenplay Competition. Abigail Spencer, star of Lifetime’s new original series, ANGELA’S EYES, will be reading the lead role. A former cast member of ALL MY CHILDREN, Abby also stars in A COAT OF SNOW, written and directed by Gordy Hoffman.

The annual reading series, held as a part of the High Falls program, brings a highly acclaimed screenplay to Rochester, casting local Rochester actors.

Synopsis of BEARD’S CREEK by Maureen Tilyou:

When three children find a murdered woman in the dreamy perils of the swamps of 1950’s Georgia, the daydreams of their latch key lives fracture horrifyingly into the reality of an actual killer, their older sister’s new beau.

Maureen Tilyou, the writer of Beard’s Creek, will direct her own screenplay. She has developed a mini-series based on the life of Ernest Hemingway with Snake River Productions as well as co-writing THE EXPERIMENT for Riverchild Films in London. She recently finished co-writing the feature FANTASY LAND, currently in pre-production with Intrinsic Value Films. In 2000, Maureen won the Best Picture Award (with director Martin Duffy) at the Austin Heart of Screenwriting Festival for the Welsh story TALIESIN.

Gordy Hoffman, Fairport native and Founder of BlueCat, will moderate the Q&A. Hoffman won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival for LOVE LIZA, which starred his brother, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Kathy Bates. His directorial debut, A COAT OF SNOW, world premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival, and went to screen at the Silver Lake Film Festival and the Milan Film Festival. A COAT OF SNOW won the Domani Vision Award, given by VisionFest, held at the Tribeca Cinemas in New York. A COAT OF SNOW will screen at the High Falls Film Festival, Friday, Nov 10, at the Dryden Theatre at the George Eastman House, at 9:45 p.m.

SCREENPLAY LIVE is sponsored by ROCHESTERTALENT.COM and the ROCHESTER FILM OFFICE.

HIGH FALLS FILM FESTIVAL is an annual international film festival that showcases exceptional work by women in film and video - all positions before and behind the camera, including cinematographer, screenwriter, editor, composer, director, producer, and stuntwoman.
