Objective

CineStory is a national non-profit dedicated to nurturing emerging screenwriters through mentorship programs. Winners of our competition have gone on to pen films such as IRON MAN, CAKE, THE CHILDREN OF MEN, BALLAST, KING OF CALIFORNIA and 11:14.

One of the main goals of the CineStory Feature Retreat is to select up-and-coming screenwriters for our four-day intensive program held in the Fall.

THE CINESTORY FEATURE RETREAT

CineStory's Retreat is dedicated to the advancement of great new voices in screenwriting. Retreat attendees are chosen from the top writers of our annual competition, the CineStory Screenwriting Awards. For four days, writers enjoy direct access to working Hollywood professionals.

GRAND PRIZE: THE CINESTORY FELLOWSHIP
Valued at over $17,000 this prize includes a $10,000 cash award, free meals, board and tuition at the exclusive CineStory Writers Retreat as well as a 12-month mentorship program with two Hollywood professionals hand picked for the winner. The CineStory Fellowship gives writers direct access to Hollywood professionals and has a long track record of success. Prior fellows have optioned material, gained representation and secured writing assignments with the guidance of their mentors. Also included: one-year Script Pipeline Writers Database membership; three-year subscription to Creative Screenwriting; iScript screenplay audio recording; and one-year Scripped PRO subscription.

CineStory Announces New Deadlines

CHICAGO, JULY 21, 1999 - CineStory, a national non-profit screenwriters' organization based here, recently announced new deadlines for its year 2000 screenwriting awards competition. September 15, 1999, is the new deadline for the CineStory Screenwriting Awards 2000. The deadline for late submissions is November 1. The entry fees are $40 per script for entries postmarked by September 15, and $50 per script for entries postmarked between September 15 and November 1. Refer to CineStory's web site, www.cinestory.com, for registration application, guidelines and a specially designated CSA mailing address. Submission brochures are currently being mailed to all those on the CineStory mailing list.

Prizes include $2,000 each and a one-year mentoring package with industry sponsor/producers designed to help each individual writer bring his or her body of work to the next level. The mentoring program comprises script notes, one-on-one meetings designed to bring the writer closer to the development process, contacts with agents and production companies when appropriate, and professional guidance.The results of the fourth annual CineStory Screenwriters' Awards (CSA) will be revealed in conjunction with the organization's annual Script Sessions conference, to be held late Spring/early Summer, date and location to be announced. This year's event was held in June and took place in San Francisco. Keynote speaker Richard Price, novelist and screenwriter of COLOR OF MONEY, SEA OF LOVE, RANSOM and CLOCKERS) presided over a Master Class for all attending CSA winners and finalists. Pam Pierce, Director of CineStory, reports that past winners have fielded options offers and landed agents. For example, twenty-one-year-old Steve Bagatourian's script WEASEL was optioned by John Cusack's New Crime Productions. The youngest writer ever to win a CSA, Bagatourian has signed with Alan Gasmer, of the William Morris Agency, and for whom Bagatourian is finishing his third script. Judges for the most recent CSA contest included executives from such leading independent producers and production companies as Miramax, The Shooting Gallery, Redeemable Features, Marc Platt Productions, Michael Douglas' Furthur Films, Ken Lipper Productions, and LEAVING LAS VEGAS producer Paige Simpson. CineStory, a nonprofit corporation founded in 1995 and headquartered in Chicago, capitalizes on its partnerships with local and national film, television, and arts-supporting entities to create and present programs for both screenwriters and producers. with a focus on recognizing emerging and working intensively with emerging screenwriters to hone their craft and find alternative access points to the screen.
