Austin Film Fest Call for Entries
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Film Festival is currently accepting entries in its 2000 Screenplay and Film Competitions. Screenplay categories are adult/mature, children/family and comedy. Entry postmark deadline for the Screenplay Competition is May 15.
The First Place winner in the adult/ and family categories will each receive a $4,000 cash prize; the First Place winner in the comedy category will receive $1,000 cash. All three First Place winners will receive reimbursement of one round-trip airfare (up to $500); hotel accommodations (up to $500); complimentary all-access producer's pass to the Festival and Screenwriters Conference ($695 value); and the Austin Film Festival Bronze Typewriter Award.
Anyone advancing to the Screenplay Competition's finalist level or beyond will have the option to attend an exclusive Master Class hosted by a Festival panelist. Semi-finalists will be included in the Festival's Competition Catalog, which is distributed to Screenplay Competition judges and other industry leaders.
The finished film follows the natural rhythm of the filmmaking process, and the Austin Film Festival acknowledges the filmmaker who has taken that next artistic step. Film competition categories are feature, short and student short. Entry postmark for the Film Competition is August 7.
The First Place winner in the feature film category will receive a $750 cash prize, while the First Place Short Film and First Place Student Short winners will each receive $500.
Additionally, the three First Place winners will receive reimbursement of one round-trip airfare (up to $500), and hotel accommodations (up to $500); and two complimentary all-access passes to the Film Festival ($695 value each); 10 tickets to each screening; and the Austin Film Festival Bronze Typewriter Award.
Films which have received distribution as a result of Austin Film Festival participation include "La Cucaracha," "The Last Big Thing" (Stratosphere) and "Hands On A Hard Body" (Legacy), to name a few.
During the 1999 Festival, more than 2,000 aspiring writers and filmmakers nationwide hobnobbed, socialized and schmoozed with scores of film and television industry VIP's including Robert Altman, (McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Cookie's Fortune), James L. Brooks (Terms of Endearment, As Good As It Gets), Scott Frank (Get Shorty, Out Of Sight), Buck Henry (The Graduate, To Die For), Ted Tally (Silence of the Lambs, All the Pretty Horses), as well as actors Matthew McConaughey, Rachel Hunter, Jean Smart and Karen Black
The Screenplay and Film Competitions are part of the Austin Film Festival, the first Film Festival dedicated to recognizing the writer's contribution to the motion picture and television industry, which will be held October 12 through October 19, 2000 in Austin, Texas.
