Contest News

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Henry Lindley

An interview with screenwriter Henry Lindley regarding the Worldfest - Houston Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: Cold Blooded Gold. This is a western ghost story about lost gold in the southwest. The audience won't be sure that the ghost is in fact a ghost until the third act.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I entered World Fest Houston because I knew the level of competition and I had won a couple of awards before with my short film. (A Silver and a Bronze)

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Great contest. I had a little trouble getting the awards home though. The TSA held up my bags. I had to wait until the last flight arrived from Houston.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: Cold Blooded Gold is a western - horses, pistols and cowboy hats, and of course a ghost, they loved it! At least they said very nice things about it. LOL

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: I had interest in another script just as I got back home in April '08. So I had other fish to fry. But I feel that the win will help this script find a production company. It is character driven with great roles for a predominantly male cast.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I have been produced twice as of this writing. A horror comedy and my short film. I was also lucky enough to have a song placed in another film. I started as a songwriter. I am in preproduction (April 2009) for another project to be shot this summer. The company is financed, otherwise I would not mention it.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I do not live in LA, I have friends that do, but I might make the move if warranted. I have always traveled with my "health insurance" job. I'm kind of a gypsy anyway.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I am always working on a new script or rewriting. I have been pitched a project for the stage just yesterday. Have never written for the stage, it's intriguing.
