MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Alan Baxter
An interview with screenwriter Alan Baxter regarding the Writers Place Writing Competition.
Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?A: The title of my script is "Alone in a Crowd" and it won second place in the Teleplay/Short category.
Justin Renner is a teenage boy with autism. He lives in a world of chaos created by his heightened awareness of light, movement, and sounds.
Like any normal teenager, Justin desires friendship, yet autism hinders his ability to interact with others. Can Justin win his battle with autism? Or will he remain a social outcast forever?
A: This contest has a solid reputation and it received high marks on the MovieBytes website. Also, my script won first place in the Houston International Film Festival and third place in the Indie Gathering.
Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?A: Paula and Jim were very nice and kept me well-informed throughout the whole process. They met the deadlines and I received my awards promptly.
Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?A: No feedback.
Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?A: My success in this contest has helped me market my script. I've had several people request to read it.
Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?A: I graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Film and TV production with an emphasis in Writing/Directing. I've written a short script about a US Border Patrol Agent called "The Crossing." It won the grand prize in the Gimme Credit Screenplay Competition and it will be produced. I co-wrote another short script with Daniel Potts called "In the Hunt." It's a horror script about geocaching and it is a finalist in the Shriekfest Film Festival.
Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?A: Born and raised in LA.
Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?A: I would like to see "Alone in a Crowd" and "In the Hunt" produced in the near future.
Also, I am writing a feature script about HIV/AIDS.
