Objective

The Slamdance Screenplay Competition is dedicated to discovering and nurturing emerging screenwriters. Since 1997, the competition has established a strong track record for introducing writers to members of the entertainment industry who have gone on to produce, option, and represent submitted work. Like the Film Festival, the Screenplay Competition is a place for new, bold, and raw voices. We are looking for scripts that take risks, refuse compromise, and go places where Hollywood hacks fear to tread.

Recent success stories include Tyler Tice, whose 2018 Grand Prize-winning horror feature Day Shift was released in 2022 as a Netflix original film starring Jamie Foxx. Day Shift became the most watched film in the world during the third week of August 2022. Show More

Slamdance and Juntobox Films Partner for the Grandest Slamdance Screenplay Competition Prize

Slamdance and JuntoBox Films, a collaborative film studio for filmmakers and fans, today announced a partnership for the 2013 Screenplay Competition to discover and support emerging writing talent. This year's Grand Prize by JuntoBox Films is the largest offered by Slamdance to the winning writer in the nineteen years of the competition's history. In addition to the $10,000 cash, JuntoBox Films is committing a minimum of $50,000 towards production financing with the option to fully fund the Grand Prize winner.

"For those determined and talented independent voices out there in the world we have stepped up to provide a tremendous opportunity for a filmmaker to develop their work in a wholly independent production. Thanks to JuntoBox Films, it's a grand prize like no other intended for a filmmaker like no other," stated Peter Baxter, Slamdance President & Co-Founder.

"For nearly 20 years, Slamdance has been a champion of the independent filmmaker," said Philippe Caland, Founder and Co-Chairman of JuntoBox Films. "The 2013 competition is right in step with JuntoBox’s goal of discovering and producing unique stories from filmmakers around the world, and we’re looking forward to reviewing the fascinating screenplays Slamdance is known to foster."

The Slamdance 2013 Screenwriting Competition presented by JuntoBox Films welcomes screenplays in every genre, any budget, on any topic, from anywhere in the world. The competition consists of four categories including Feature, Short, Horror and Original Teleplay/Webisode. Awards are given to the top three scripts in each category with a Grand Prize of $10,000 cash and $50,000 in production funds for the best feature length screenplay regardless of category.

Through artistic collaboration and by crowdfunding the filmmaking process, JuntoBox Films unites social development with traditional film production. JuntoBox has greenlit a total of four projects since launching last year. The company’s first film, "Passenger," is set to begin production in February.

All finalists will receive feedback on their submissions both from the official Slamdance judges as well as the JuntoBox Films judges. The finalists will then be allowed to resubmit their revised screenplays before the close of competition.

The call for submissions for the Slamdance 2013 Screenwriting Competition presented by JuntoBox Films will open on February 25th running through July 2nd, and the winners will be announced in early October 2013.
