Austin Fest Presents Academy-Award Nominee Stewart Stern
AUSTIN, Texas -- Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Stewart Stern will attend a special screening of his films, Rebel Without A Cause and Rachel, Rachel on Friday, June 16 at the Paramount Theatre (713 Congress) in conjunction with the 7th Annual Austin Film Festival and Heart of Film Screenwriting Conference, which will be held October 12 through October 19, 2000 in Austin, Texas.
The screening is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, with a 30-minute question and answer session with Mr. Stern between the two films.
Stewart Stern began his career as a playwright, but moved to Hollywood in 1948 to become a screenwriter. In 1951, he re-wrote the screenplay for Teresa for MGM Studios, which was nominated for the Academy Award for original story. That same year, his second teaming with director Fred Zinneman, Benjy, yielded an Oscar for Best Short Documentary.
Stern's first big box office success was 1955's Rebel Without A Cause, which was followed by several successful screenplays including The Rack (1956), Rachel, Rachel (1968) and Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams (1973).
Tickets for the special Friday night screening with Stewart Stern in attendance will be available at the Paramount Theatre box office (472.5470) the day of the screenings.
