Screenwriter Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Phil Clarke

An interview with screenwriter Phil Clarke regarding the Gimme Credit Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: Not Even Death

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I had written a number of short scripts and was looking for a competition for shorts. Also, this competition provided feedback for the entries, something I looked for.

Q: Were you satisfied with the administration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: Yes, to all questions.

Q: How long did it take you to write the script? Did you write an outline beforehand? How many drafts did you write?

A: I thought about my script for a few weeks and wrote the first draft in one day (it was only five pages). I later did revisions on it.

Q: What kind of software did you use to write the script, if any? What other kinds of writing software do you use?

A: Final Draft

Q: Do you write every day? How many hours per day?

A: I try to. Sometimes I get only a page or two written; other days, I can write up to ten pages a day.

Q: Do you ever get writer's block? If so, how do you deal with that?

A: I had it once for several months. I didn't write anything in this time. I finally got rid of it by taking an old script I had partially-written and rewrote it, completing it.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I have numerous screenplays. Several shorts were produced and I have an optioned feature.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I live in New York. That's good enough for now.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: I'm working on a television script for the numerous fellowship programs that are coming up.
