ELLIOTS SALOON

Male beauticians are considered the best, and nowadays, there is a mis-perception that most male beauticians are homosexuals, hence they attract more clientele in the beauty industry. Elliot is about to find out that as a heterosexual male in the beauty industry, he's in for more than he bargained for.

SYNOPSIS

At age 30, ELLIOT CRAVEN is still a bachelor--and in the beauty salon business? In San Francisco of all places? This bothers his mother, JULIA CRAVEN, and sometimes his two best friends, WILLIAM PETERS (WILL) and DWAYNE JOHNSON (DJ). Elliot's female clients believe he is the best beautician in the city of San Francisco; they feel very comfortable, and trusting at his every touch, after all, "he is gay and has no romantic intentions".... WRONG! Elliot's male customers who are homosexuals find it necessary to maintain their patronage at Elliot's salon believing Elliot is an important member of their community. Elliot will not disclose any information about himself; he definitely needs the business from everyone. Julia often wonders why Elliot hasn't had a successful outcome from her clandestine date arrangements for him. Deep down in her mind, she has doubts about her son's sexuality, and this becomes the crux of all their comedic dialogue. Will Julia finally realize that Elliot is just not attracted to her choice of women? And will Elliot ever find out that his mother is responsible for most of his female patrons' romantic advances? For those female patrons, will they ever confront Julia to break the news to her that her son Elliot is "gay" as far as they're concerned? Julia, pursuing her mission to get Elliot married, sometimes recruits WILL and DJ who will never reveal to Elliot his mother's date set-ups for him. Can Elliot handle the ironies, deceptions, misconceptions, and misinterpretations while running this salon? Or will he just do exactly what he is doing: KEEP EVERYONE GUESSING.

MAIN CHARACTERS ELLIOT CRAVEN: As the central character, Elliot, 30, tall, dark-haired, blue-eyed, physically fit and single white male living in San Francisco is automatically labeled "gay." This misperception doesn't seem to bother Elliot--after all, his business thrives by that depiction. In fact, the only moment he wishes it were otherwise is when he is sincerely attracted to a female client, and desperately attempts to prove his machismo.

JULIA CRAVEN: A southern-born widow, she moved to San Francisco to be closer to her only son. At 60, she exemplifies the beautiful older woman, yet she maintains southern conservative values that differ from her son's liberal views; one of their continuous, and un-ending, "arguments."... "Ma...you don't belong in San Francisco!" is Elliot's usual response to his mother.

WILLIAM PETERS (WILL): Born in San Francisco, WILL is even more liberal than Elliot, but at 30, he has four children and a beautiful wife. Because WILL has never traveled to any other part of the country, Elliot usually makes fun of that aspect of his life. DWAYNE JOHNSON (DJ): DJ, 28, African American, forced to relocate to San Francisco from Los Angeles to be with his wife, RENEE, a broadcaster who accepted a new job offer in San Francisco, is not really fond of the lifestyle in San Francisco's social scene. He is sometimes very disappointed about racial issues at work where he manages an automobile dealership.
