Sundance Institute Now Accepting Applications for the 2004 Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship

The Sundance Institute Feature Film Program is seeking applications for the 2004 Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship. The Fellowship provides support for a script, from inception to pre-production, that explores science or technology themes or that depict scientists, engineers, or mathematicians in innovative ways. The Fellowship was established in 2003 with a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation designed to foster the development and exhibition of independent film projects on science or technology themes. The multi-year effort blends the Sloan Foundation’s goal of enhancing public understanding of science and technology with Sundance Institute’s mission to foster independent voices and compelling storytelling in film.

The project includes the Alfred P. Sloan Prize, which is presented to an outstanding feature film at the Sundance Film Festival that focuses on science or technology as a theme, or depicting a scientist, engineer, or mathematician as a major character. This year’s recipient was PRIMER, directed by first-time filmmaker Shane Carruth. The Alfred P. Sloan Prize carries a $20,000 cash award to the writer/director. PRIMER also received the 2004 Sundance Film Festival Dramatic Grand Jury Prize.

More information is available on the Sundance Institute website at www.sundance.org.
