Sunscreen Announces Winning Screenplays

The winning screenplays have been announced for the 2012 Sunscreen Film Festival.

Under Pressure
Eric Carlson
When, during a risky test dive, the Navy's newest submarine floods and sinks with no chance of outside rescue, a young, untested skipper must convince his skeptical crew to follow his brilliant yet dangerous plan that could save their lives...or hasten their demise. Based on a true story in 1920.

Nuclear One
Michael Toay & Travis Mann
'The Rock', 'Die Hard' and 'Speed' in a nuclear reactor. A small town sheriff is the only thing standing between terrorists and their diabolical plan to cause a catastrophic meltdown at Russellville, Arkansas' Nuclear One power plant.

The Black Drum
Robert Eder
By catching a record-breaking fish, 14 year old Jayson Mines is forced to deal with his dying mother, her criminal boyfriend, and his own sense of right and wrong. Set in the Florida Gulf Coast community of Goodland, (whose T-shirts advertise 'Goodland, a small drinking village with a fishing problem'), this coming-of-age, action-drama is about a kid who doesn't know how to navigate the manipulation and lies around him, especially the lie that he's created. Unlikemost fish stories, Jayson's lie isn't about the size of his catch, it's about how he caught it.The world of backwater sport fishing, a subculture rarely represented on the screen, with the anticipation of life and death, and tropical environs offers an exotic and exciting setting.

Dirty Business
Haik Hakobian
Harvard business graduate Julia Madison hopes to be the next CEO of her family's multimillion dollar corporation, but she inherits a dilapidated auto repair shop instead. To prove herself, she takes on the task of rebuilding the rundown shop. The task is more daunting than she could have imagined. The business comes with a mechanic whose view of life challenges Julia's very core. Otto Bieber, willful, grubby, independent, has no business sense, and worse, he doesn't collect enough payment from customers. After months of struggle, Julia finally makes headway with him, but her struggle gets even worse when she makes an enemy of the dealership owner across the street.

Profit & Loss
Matt Sharp
Profit & Loss follows the lives of individuals affected by the financial system meltdown of 2008. Each story is taken from a different level of the financial system, with each character's moral and physical challenges they are forced to confront because of the crash. The movie shows the inherent decisions each character must make and how that decision affects the next person on down the line. Think of it as 'Crash' for the financial system meltdown of 2008.

Nekropolis
Kevin Walker & Jason Beever
For a young and passionate suburban writer, the struggle to find meaning and self-worth in his life soon becomes a devastating battle against his own futility and inner demons.

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM: Accident
David J Schroeder
Larry David has a hard time being smart without being an ass. A traffic violation leads Larry David to traffic court and community service as a traffic cross walk guard. Meanwhile, the hybrid car maybe a silent killer, and Jeff Green is losing weight while getting massaged.
