Born to Turkish immigrants, she grew up with quite a few intersectional life sentiments involving race, ethnicity, religion, and belonging. For this reason, she has always found herself gravitating to groups of diverse people, and trying to understand the binary mindset of others.
Her passion for writing, a hobby that started around the same time as her literacy, has allowed her to explore the personable experiences of others. Because of this, Selcen's stories typically embody the fantastical tools of magical realism. In her latest script, she strays from the metaphorical approach and brings to life a cast of very human characters.
